A magnetic field visualized
Love simple, effective demonstrations like this!
Speaking of magnetism, have you seen this amazing ferrofluids video yet?
When I was on my OB/GYN rotation 3rd year, I had a post partum patient who was in the ICU. She went nuts on some people, went in to early labor, and then went into a coma. No one really knew what was wrong with her. She had been tested for and had ruled out nearly everything, and her doctors were still stumped.
She had very little family and no one ever came to visit her. As a result of her frequent fevers, developing C/S wound infection, and profuse sweating, she smelled pretty sour. Her hair hadn’t been washed or combed in quite some time. Her smell plus her contact precautions status made it so that people only went in her room if they absolutely had to.
Wow I really hope that if I ever became a doctor I would be as good to a patient. So often in medicine it isn’t about the stack of drugs listed on the chart but that true care for the people and being with them. There are limits to how many drugs there are to cure certain things, but there sure are more things that could be done to help the patient as a whole.
Floaters are deposits of various size, shape, consistency, refractive index, and motility within the eye’s vitreous humour, which is normally transparent. At a young age the vitreous is perfectly transparent but, during life, imperfections gradually develop. The common type of floater, which is present in most people’s eyes, is due to degenerative changes of the vitreous humour. The perception of floaters is known as myodesopsia. Floaters are visible because of the shadows they cast on the retina or their refraction of the light that passes through them, and can appear alone or together with several others in one’s field of vision. They may appear as spots, threads, or fragments of cobwebs, which float slowly before the observer’s eyes. Since these objects exist within the eye itself, they are not optical illusions but are entoptic phenomena.
Always wanted to know what the heck these were. Hurray for science :)
